17 minutes before last call

It happened! i got to pull back and release. POOF it went....SPLAT it hit.. At 40 yds hit a double lung shot on an old doe. 17 minutes before the END of the season....how incredibly lucky i am. been 21 years since i last shot a bow at a deer and stuck it. i am sure the feelings havent changed but the meaning of the kill surely has. 21 years ago i was a young college punk who got lucky that his roommate was a deer hunting redneck from Russleville. he took me one morning, put me in his tree stand… Continue

2nd big buck encounter ruined by raindrop

its been a trying and learning season so far. have had lots of pics on the trail cams but not seeing much in my area when i am there. after not seeing anything for over a week i was ready for a break. but i knew better, something would come. have new scrapes and rubs, those are exciting. i hunted all last week in a new spot. i stood inbetween 3 trees at a point of woods that led into a bean field. last sunday a doe entered from the field into the woods 15yds behind me. i didnt shoot her but… Continue

This has been a tough hunting season.

I haven't written on here for several days, but we have been out in the woods. I think I got a little discouraged with the whole thing, hunting and writing about not having any success. That's why we call it hunting and not shooting. Right? Sometimes it seems shooting might be fun to try. Anyway, it really has been a fun and challenging season. especially with the camera equipment. That makes an already hard thing to accomplish, even harder. We may be down but we are definitely not out. Still… Continue

Nov 7th thru Nov 15th 2009 - I Have had Better Hunting Vacations

Well let me start out with this. I already tagged a buck in September nice calm shot and no recovery problems. Since then I missed a doe on the ground in October at 20-25 yards, and the rest of my shame is chronicled below. The standing corn is my curse this year.

Saturday, Nov 7th: Near record warmth and southerly winds defined today. Started in mid 50's and worked it's way up to low 70's. Good grief where did my 30's and 40's go that we had in October??? I saw one buck. A probable… Continue

2009 Bow Season

Well my 2009 early archery season came to an end yesterday. No I didn't get a buck. I took these past three days off to bow hunt and cannot go until this Saturday. It was a fun archery season, but a weird one. This was the first October that I did not even see a shooter. I saw many 110-120" 8 pointers, but no mature bucks. I was a little discouraged, but new the better days were to come. Starting Halloween day that all changed. I passed on a good 2-3 year old 8 pointer chase a doe in to me, but… Continue

pics werent lost

had put up that new stealth cam and thought that it didnt take pics for the whole week it was up. well i was wrong. the sd card just doesnt work in my camera. had put a new cam up in its place and knew it worked, took the sd card an went to look at pics and nothing. so i brought it home and slid it in the laptop and boom there were pics from both cams. there were the pics of the big 8. so to everybody else, if ur sd card doesnt work in one device might be smart to try another device before… Continue

Nov. 5th hunt

We hit the woods again today with alot of enthusiasm. Looking for good things to happen. Had a small buck come through early. Not what we were looking for. Saw a decent buck cruising a feild edge a couple hundred yards away. Rattled but no response. I heard about a real nice deer that was killed today here in Putnam county. The big boys are starting to spend more time looking for does. Maybe tomorrow we'll be in the right spot!

Nov. 4 Hunt

Nick and I were out twice today, morning and evening hunts. Seemed like it would be a pretty decent day for movement, especially this morn. overcast and cool temps. So much for what I think! We were in spots that we had alot of confidence in, but the only deer we saw were a doe and fawns that came in 10 min before dark. Could have taken the doe. but we were looking at a 1/4 mile drag back to the truck through standing corn. Didn't seem worth it at the moment. Hopefully each day closer to the… Continue

nov 3, 6:40am-9 and 3:45pm-6:20pm

at 7:07 had a big doe and her two little ones 25yds behind me in a cut bean field. thought for sure i was going to get the big one. as they were walking my way the mom just turned and walked back a few yards and layed down in the field as the two ate freely. this went on for about 25 minutes. then they walked back the way they came. 30 minutes later i see two large does about 75yds east of me thru a wooded ravine, in a large grassy yard. they walked down a point from the yard into the ravine… Continue
